Gallien-Krueger is a California amp maker named after its founders, Bob Gallien and Rich Krueger. Its solid-state bass heads became a staple on rock stages, and the 800RB is the model most players know. It was built to be loud and dependable night after night.
Darkglass's built-in Kallinen Kruukkeri is likely the 800RB. Darkglass does not name it, so that is our inference from the name, a Finnish-sounding play on the company's, and the controls.
The 800RB is bi-amped. Its built-in crossover sends the lows to one power amp and the highs to another, so you can run separate cabs for each. In practice, many players used it into a single cab and just enjoyed the punch.
The GK sound is bright, clear and mid-forward, with a tight, quick low end. It has a slightly hard, aggressive edge that helps a bass cut through loud guitars. Its voicing filters let you reshape the tone quickly, from a scooped modern sound to a more growly, mid-heavy one.
That made it popular in rock, funk and punk, where definition matters more than warmth. Played with a pick, it has a strong, clanky top end that sits well with distorted guitars.
On the Anagram, Kallinen Kruukkeri pairs well with a bright 4x10 cab block. If it is too sharp, try a cab with less top end, or roll back the treble on the block.
Try Kallinen Kruukkeri first into a 4x10 cab block, with the EQ flat. Then use the voicing options to scoop or push the mids.
