MRH159 Brown Sound Amplifier

MRH159 is modeled after a vintage Marshall Super Lead 1959 100W, one of the most iconic British tube amplifiers ever made.

From open, dynamic Plexi-style crunch to powerful saturated lead tones, MRH159 captures the aggressive response, harmonic richness and unmistakable character of a cranked vintage Super Lead.

The defining feature of MRH159 is its dedicated BROWN SOUND modification. Instead of simply adding more gain, this mode recreates a series of hardware modifications made to the original amplifier to produce the legendary late-'70s Brown Sound.

The modified amplifier features:

• Mains voltage reduced to 90V using a variable transformer, changing the response and feel of the entire amplifier
• Original power tubes replaced with 6CA7 "Fat Bottle" tubes for a bigger, tighter and more aggressive power-stage character
• Middle control changed to 50kΩ, altering the response of the tone stack
• 25µF cathode bypass capacitor added to the V2 preamp tube, the famous "fat cap" modification, increasing body and harmonic content

Together, these modifications transform the original Super Lead circuit into a thicker, more saturated and harmonically rich amplifier while retaining the dynamic response and articulation of the classic design.

MRH159 also features the two characteristic channels of the original amplifier: Channel 1 delivers the brighter and more aggressive High Treble response, while Channel 2 provides the fuller and more balanced Normal voicing.
